There may be some confusion what exactly 5 star means. In this day & age I see it all over the place. I see in every corner donut shop a sign that say “worlds best” or “5 star” coffee. I see 5 star restaurants in every city on every street. There are 5 star ratings on businesses in almost every field now because it attracts business. I have visited several establishments in the past that were titled 5 star either by themselves or by someone who had no right doing so if they were in their right mind. A 5 star rating should mean something. It should not be a marketing ploy used to stir up business. It should be a standard of business meaning that the company cares about their customers experience so much they do everything PERFECT for them. This is not a rating that a company should be able to bestow on their own brand or business rather it should have to be earned through real customer ratings or via consumer testing & reporting. There should be some supporting evidence to go with the claim.
Many people give a 5 star rating to businesses & do not consider the reaction of giving it out. There are real expectations that should come along with this type of a claim. First & foremost is that when you are in a side by side comparison with your competition you best them hands down in every category beginning with customer care & satisfaction. Many businesses forget that. In this era the internet is a digital form of archiving records. Meaning once you get a bad review online it stays there for all to see so you better get a good one up there immediately afterward to rectify the situation. Word of mouth has always been the best form of advertising for your business, either good or bad but the Internet has multiplied that word of mouth by 1,000. Anyone who wants to know if you are really 5 stars can easily find out by a very simple web search.
This is at least creating a somewhat leveled playing ground because a business cannot just throw the term 5 star around without at least putting some effort towards trying to back up those claims. At least if I am walking down the street & see a sign saying there is a world class donut & a 5 star cup of coffee in this establishment I can pull out my smartphone to look it up. The customer reviews will likely clue me in on the chances of the business being honest about their menu items.
This may seem a bit excessive but you must consider the customer first & foremost when making these claims.
